Update: The NFL Week 17 TV schedule, point spreads, and picks post is up.
——————–
After having my first sub-.500 spread picking week in Week 6, I was able to bounce back in Week 7.
Coming into tonight’s Monday Nighter between the Redskins and Eagles (I took the Eagles -7.5, which is looking good so far) I was sitting at 7-4 for the week and 56-41 overall. The overall total could be a game or two off, but pretty solid regardless.
[Update: 8-4 for the week and 57-41 overall thanks to the Eagles’ 10-point W.]
Looking ahead to Week 8, we have another week with six teams on bye. However, unlike Week 7, the schedule is filled with solid games: Denver-Baltimore, Giants-Eagles, Dolphins-Jets, Falcons-Saints.
Oh yeah, and Vikings-Packers…the return of Brett Favre to Lambeau Field.
A couple of quick things to keep in mind:
- The Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers, and Redskins are on their bye.
- There is no Sunday night game this week due to the World Series.
- All times are ET.
- Some games do not have all of the information filled in as of this post being published (i.e. a few games don’t have spreads yet and the announcer assignments have not yet been announced). I’ll up date this post as soon as the information is available at the506.com.
- Point spread and over-under listings are as of Monday night, and obviously subject to change throughout the week. If you want update point spread info, or some expert advice as you make your weekly picks, below are a few helpful links.

Denver Broncos (6-0) at Baltimore Ravens (3-3)
- Broncos-Ravens Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Broncos-Ravens Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Broncos-Ravens TV Network: CBS
- Broncos-Ravens Announcers: Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf
- Broncos-Ravens Point Spread: Ravens -3
- Broncos-Ravens Over-Under: 37.5
- Broncos-Ravens Spread Pick: Looking forward to this one. Will Denver miraculous beginning to the season end? The Ravens started out undefeated, but have dropped three in a row, all in close matchups. I hate picking against the Ravens when they are at home, but I think if they win, it’s closer than a field goal. I’m beginning to believe in this Broncos team, at least enough to cover on the road. Broncos-Ravens free pick: Broncos +3
Houston Texans (4-3) at Buffalo Bills (3-4)
- Texans-Bills Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Texans-Bills Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Texans-Bills TV Network: CBS
- Texans-Bills Announcers: Ian Eagle and Rich Gannon
- Texans-Bills Point Spread: Texans -3.5
- Texans-Bills Over-Under: 40.5
- Texans-Bills Spread Pick: Somehow the Bills have won three game. I’m still not impressed. I watched them against the Browns and Buffalo was just awful. That memory remains burned my memory, whereas the Texans have been playing much better football of late. I’d worry if Andre Johnson doesn’t play, but I’m still picking the road favorite to cover. This is a solid Texans team. Texans-Bills free pick: Texans -3.5
New York Giants (5-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-2)
- Giants-Eagles Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Giants-Eagles Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Giants-Eagles TV Network: FOX
- Giants-Eagles Announcers: Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa
- Giants-Eagles Point Spread: No line as of Monday night
- Giants-Eagles Over-Under: No line as of Monday night
- Giants-Eagles Spread Pick: Too tough to pick this game without a line. I’ll wait.
Miami Dolphins (2-4) at New York Jets (4-3)
- Dolphins-Jets Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Dolphins-Jets Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Dolphins-Jets TV Network: CBS
- Dolphins-Jets Announcers: Jim Nantz and Phil Simms
- Dolphins-Jets Point Spread: Jets -3
- Dolphins-Jets Over-Under: 40.5
- Dolphins-Jets Spread Pick: The Dolphins have played really well in two of their losses this year, but just seem to be missing the magic that allowed them to win close games last year. The Fins beat the Jets on Monday night a few weeks ago, but I’m not confident enough to pick them to do it again, especially with Will Allen now out and two rookies starting at cornerback. Dolphins-Jets free pick: Jets -3
San Francisco 49ers (3-3) at Indianapolis Colts (6-0)
- 49ers-Colts Date: Sunday, November 1st
- 49ers-Colts Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- 49ers-Colts TV Network: FOX
- 49ers-Colts Announcers: Sam Rosen and Tim Ryan
- 49ers-Colts Point Spread: Colts -12
- 49ers-Colts Over-Under: 44
- 49ers-Colts Spread Pick: The Colts are at home, they are a well-oiled offensive machine, and have the best player in football…but 12 points is a lot, even at home, against a solid 49ers team. With Alex Smith now starting, it will be interesting to see how the 49ers offense responds. I am not going to be fooled by one half against a suspect D; I want to see Smith do it again. And I just don’t think SF can match points with the Colts. 49ers-Colts free pick: Colts -12
Cleveland Browns (1-6) at Chicago Bears (3-3)
- Browns-Bears Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Browns-Bears Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Browns-Bears TV Network: CBS
- Browns-Bears Announcers: Kevin Harlan and Solomon Wilcots
- Browns-Bears Point Spread: Bears -13.5
- Browns-Bears Over-Under: 39.5
- Browns-Bears Spread Pick: After what I saw on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland, I refuse to pick the Browns right now. Of course, Bears fans are probably saying the same thing after their egg against the Bengals. Still, the memory of that home performance against the Packers is too stinky for me to forget this soon. I’m going with the home team to win big. Browns-Bears free pick: Bears -13.5
Seattle Seahawks (2-4) at Dallas Cowboys (4-2)
- Seahawks-Cowboys Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Seahawks-Cowboys Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Seahawks-Cowboys TV Network: FOX
- Seahawks-Cowboys Announcers: Dick Stockton, Charles Davis, and Nischelle Turner
- Seahawks-Cowboys Point Spread: Cowboys -9.5
- Seahawks-Cowboys Over-Under: 45
- Seahawks-Cowboys Spread Pick: The Cowboys are looking good right now, but the Seahawks are coming off of their bye and will surely want to put their awful performance against Arizona behind them. I think Dallas will win this game, but it will be a little tougher than 9.5. Seahawks-Cowboys free pick: Seahawks +9.5
St. Louis Rams (0-7) at Detroit Lions (1-5)
- Rams-Lions Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Rams-Lions Kickoff Time: 1:00 PM
- Rams-Lions TV Network: FOX
- Rams-Lions Announcers: Ron Pitts and John Lynch
- Rams-Lions Point Spread: No line as of Monday night
- Rams-Lions Over-Under: No line as of Monday night
- Rams-Lions Spread Pick: One of the ugliest games of the year. I refuse to pick this one, even when they announce the line.
Oakland Raiders (2-5) at San Diego Chargers (3-3)
- Raiders-Chargers Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Raiders-Chargers Kickoff Time: 4:05 PM
- Raiders-Chargers TV Network: CBS
- Raiders-Chargers Announcers: Dick Enberg and Dan Fouts
- Raiders-Chargers Point Spread: Chargers -16.5
- Raiders-Chargers Over-Under: 41.5
- Raiders-Chargers Spread Pick: Oakland was awful last weekend, one week after inexplicably stomping Philly. The Chargers seemed to start clicking this past Sunday with a solid win over Kansas City. I think the trends of Week 7 continue and San Diego blasts Oakland, despite the fact that Oakland played San Diego close in Week 1. Raiders-Chargers free pick: Chargers -16.5
Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) at Tennessee Titans (0-6)
- Jaguars-Titans Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Jaguars-Titans Kickoff Time: 4:05 PM
- Jaguars-Titans TV Network: CBS
- Jaguars-Titans Announcers: Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker
- Jaguars-Titans Point Spread: Titans -3
- Jaguars-Titans Over-Under: 45
- Jaguars-Titans Spread Pick: You would think that Tennessee would win at some point. This would be a solid chance, as I don’t think Jacksonville is a .500 team this year. I think the Titans return from the bye ready to go and get a solid home victory. Jaguars-Titans free pick: Titans -3
Minnesota Vikings (6-1) at Green Bay Packers (4-2)
- Vikings-Packers Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Vikings-Packers Kickoff Time: 4:15 PM
- Vikings-Packers TV Network: FOX
- Vikings-Packers Announcers: Thom Brennaman and Troy Aikman
- Vikings-Packers Point Spread: Packers -3
- Vikings-Packers Over-Under: 47
- Vikings-Packers Spread Pick: The game of the week. I think this is going to be a good game, but I like the Packers. It will be human nature for Brett Favre to want to do a little bit too much, and I think Green Bay’s offense is really clicking right now. Ryan Grant needs to run the ball well to somewhat offset Adrian Peterson, but I think the homefield advantage wins out and the Packers earn a split in the season series. Vikings-Packers free pick: Packers -3
Carolina Panthers (2-4) at Arizona Cardinals (4-2)
- Panthers-Cardinals Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Panthers-Cardinals Kickoff Time: 4:15 PM
- Panthers-Cardinals TV Network: FOX
- Panthers-Cardinals Announcers: Chris Myers and Brian Billick
- Panthers-Cardinals Point Spread: Cardinals -9
- Panthers-Cardinals Over-Under: 42
- Panthers-Cardinals Spread Pick: The Cardinals are rolling right now and the Panthers may be switching QBs. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game got real ugly, real early. Panthers-Cardinals free pick: Cardinals -9
Atlanta Falcons (4-2) at New Orleans Saints (6-0)
- Falcons-Saints Date: Sunday, November 1st
- Falcons-Saints Kickoff Time: 8:30 PM
- Falcons-Saints TV Network: ESPN
- Falcons-Saints Announcers: Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, and Jon Gruden
- Falcons-Saints Point Spread: Saints -10
- Falcons-Saints Over-Under: 54
- Falcons-Saints Spread Pick: This will be another tremendous game and my temptation is to pick the Saints and not think about it. But Atlanta is a good team that just ran into a well-rested, ready-to-go team in Week 7 that was coming off of its bye. I do think the Saints will win, and I’m sure they’ll put up a ton of points, but I think the Falcons can keep this one closer than the 10 points they are being given. Falcons-Saints free pick: Falcons +10
